Warrnambool’s West Water Tower sits proudly in Victoria Park Reserve, just off Hyland Street Warrnambool in Southwestern Victoria.
Our Story Mural
The project designers of the ‘Our Story Mural’ tower art described it as “a culturally welcoming mural”. It portrays the images of three local migrants and refugees who have integrated into the community, representing their hardships and challenges.
The three migrants/refugees depicted in the murals are:
Kaninda Bijimba who endured 17 years in African refugee camps.
Dharshini Suntharam is a Tamil who fled Sri Lanka in 2012 and
Dora Adair who escaped “the troubles” in Belfast Ireland.
The project was initiated by Leadership Great South Coast (LGSC) 2017 Alumni and was supported by Regional Development Victoria and their local groups including the Warrnambool City Council.
The mural was created by Claire Foxton in October 2018 and took three weeks to complete.
Warrnambool is a thriving city along the Great Ocean Road, was founded in 1855 and is Victoria’s largest coastal city outside of Port Phillip Bay. The town has extensive murals throughout and there is a link to a guide here to help find them as you wander through the city.
