The Varley silos, painted by Jerome Davenport with assistance from Artbyrow, are located on Pitt Street, directly opposite the Varley Town Hall. Our small town sits 450 km from Perth and 300 km from Esperance, along the Brookton Highway, about 80 km east of Hyden and Wave Rock.
The artwork on the silos is a tribute to our region, featuring:
At the heart of the mural is a woman’s hands holding wheat, symbolizing our deep connection to the land. A breathtaking sunset in the background completes the scene.
Varley is a broadacre farming town, with some sheep farming as well. We grow wheat, barley, canola, lupins, and faba beans—agriculture is at the core of our way of life.
The idea for the Varley Silo Project has been in our thoughts for a long time. Our town is already a popular stop, thanks to the Varley Chicken Ranch, which is ranked number three for best free camps on WikiCamps. With travelers regularly passing through, the Chicken Ranch is often full of free campers.
We believe this silo artwork will attract even more visitors and bring benefits to both Varley and other towns along the Perth-Esperance route. Our close-knit community is committed to developing our town for future generations, and these silos are just the beginning. Over the next four years, more artwork will be added in preparation for our Centenary in September 2028.
Make your visit even more special—stay the night at the Chicken Ranch!
