Townsville Water Tank Art - Queensland

Artist: Garth Jankovic

Location: Jones Street, Castle Hill, Townsville, QLD

Photos by: ASAT

The Townsville Water Reservoir is located on the slopes of Castle Hill, though not at the famous lookout. It is visible from the streets of the central CBD and can be accessed by taking Sturt Street and then turning onto Jones Road.

The artwork on the reservoir was painted by Garth Jankovic before February 2019, though the exact date is uncertain.

Situated right on the edge of a section of Castle Hill, the reservoir is perched in a spot that might be challenging for those who, like me, have a fear of heights or cliff edges. Capturing a photo of this site can be tricky, as there is no space to step back and get a wider shot—the area offers no ground to stand on for a better perspective.

The painting on the Castle Hill Water Reservoir showcases the incredible diversity of Queensland’s flora and fauna, bringing the vibrant natural environment of the region to life in a striking and unique way.

Parking Information

The Castle Hill Water Reservoir sit at the top and edge of a section of Castle Hill. The access road is not suitable for caravans at all. I would suggest visiting this site in your car only.
