In the early 1900s, PremierEdward Granville Theodorechampioned an ambitious plan to harness the Dawson River’s potential for irrigation. By 1923, the government had claimed vast swaths of land, birthing the Dawson Valley Irrigation Scheme and offering hope to aspiring farmers. Under Theodore’s vision, Castle Creek emerged as the pioneering town, with a sophisticated irrigation network channeling water to individual plots of land.
Despite challenges like floods and economic downturns, Theodore thrived, boasting 264 irrigated farms and urban amenities by late 1926.
