Tarcutta Water Tank Art - New South Wales

Artists: Peter & Samara Ingram

Location: Tarcutta Hume Hwy, Tarcutta New South Wales

The Tarcutta Rest Area Water Tank Art was painted by Peter and Samara Ingram in early 2020.

Locating this small tank may prove a bit challenging as the road signage for this rest area is labelled as the Kilgowlah Rest Area, not the Tarcutta Rest Area, as listed on Google Maps. The actual Tarcutta Rest Stop is 2km closer to Tarcutta and serves as a truck stop only.

The mural depicts local indigenous scenes, showcasing people gathered around a fire under the stars at night, sharing stories of days gone by. Additionally, a snake is depicted; perhaps it represents the Rainbow Serpent. The Rainbow Serpent, or Rainbow Snake, is an

immortal being and a creator god in Aboriginal Mythology.
