The painting of the metal silo in Picola marks the commencement of a two-part project. This initial phase showcases the local Barmah Forest, with plans to paint the concrete silos at a later date as funding becomes available.
Renowned artist Jimmy Dvate undertook the painting task, commencing in late November 2020 and completing the project within a
remarkable time frame of just four weeks.
Upon visiting Picola to admire the silo art, Jimmy Dvate presents viewers with an intriguing challenge. In days gone by, Picola
was affectionately referred to as ‘The Hook’ due to its location at the end of the railway line. To commemorate this historical aspect, the artist has ingeniously concealed a hook within the painting. Can you spot it?
It’s worth noting that the silos are privately owned and remain fully operational, particularly during harvest season. Visitors are advised to exercise caution when exploring the area.
Fun Fact: The twin silos boast a combined capacity of 2000 tonnes, with the steel annexe capable of holding an additional 1900 tonnes.
