The Narrabundah Water Tank Art, completed in July 2019, stands as a striking example of community collaboration and artistic vision. This monumental project was brought to life through the combined efforts of the renowned Canberra artist Geoff Filmer, who was supported by his father—an esteemed sculptor in his own right. Together, they transformed the large, utilitarian surface of the Narrabundah Reservoir, turning it into a visually stunning work of art.

Officially known as the Narrabundah Reservoir, this impressive water tank has a massive capacity of 18 million liters, playing a crucial role in supplying water to the inner southern regions of Canberra. Prior to the mural, the tank had unfortunately been a target for frequent graffiti, which detracted from its otherwise functional purpose.

The new artwork serves as both a visual asset to the community and a deterrent against further vandalism, helping to preserve the structure’s integrity while adding a vibrant cultural touch.

The mural itself is a celebration of the local environment and biodiversity. It features a breathtaking array of native flora and fauna, including banksias, paper daisies, and goannas, as well as majestic pelicans, all depicted in intricate detail.

This beautiful artwork not only highlights the rich natural beauty of the surrounding region but also brings attention to the unique wildlife and plant life that thrive in the area. The mural stands as a tribute to the diverse ecosystems that make the Narrabundah area so special, while also showcasing the creativity and talent of those involved in bringing the vision to life.
