Artist: Margarita Menares

Location: 50 Laurie Street, Mt Magnet, Western Australia

The Mount Magnet Water Tank is strategically located in one of the original mining towns in Western Australia’s mid-west region.

This town holds great historical significance, as it is the longest-surviving gold mining settlement in the entire state, with a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. Mount Magnet played a crucial role during the gold rush era, and its heritage continues to be an important part of Western Australia's mining legacy.

We were first made aware of the completion of this impressive water tank in May 2021, a project that has since drawn attention for both its functionality and artistic design. The water tank serves as a vital part of the town’s infrastructure, ensuring a steady water supply to the community.

In addition to its utilitarian purpose, the tank is aesthetically appealing, as it has been adorned with artwork that celebrates the native flora and fauna of the region. The design features various species of plants and animals that are native to the area, showcasing the natural beauty of the local environment. This not only highlights the unique ecological diversity of Mount Magnet but also serves as a reminder of the deep connection between the community and the land they inhabit.
