Artists: Scott Nagy & Krimsone
Location: Lockhart the Rock Rd, Milbrulong, NSW
Proudly owned by: Riverina Water
This charming water tower, a delightful and eye-catching feature in the town of Milbrulong, was beautifully painted by the talented Scott Nagy and Krimsone in May 2020. The mural has since become a prominent part of the town’s landscape, adding a splash of vibrant art to the area and drawing the attention of both locals and visitors.
Milbrulong is a small town situated between Lockhart and The Rock, and its name is derived from the Wiradjuri word for Rosella, a colorful and graceful bird that is native to the region. The Rosella bird plays a significant role in the local culture and environment, which is why it became the central theme for the mural.
The idea of using the Rosella as the main subject for the water tower’s artwork was met with enthusiastic approval from the townspeople, who felt it was a fitting representation of the area's natural beauty and the vibrant wildlife that inhabits it.
The mural is thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding bushland, using the natural environment as its inspiration. The artwork depicts a series of striking Rosellas in various poses, perched among the branches and leaves of a giant, towering Gumtree. The inclusion of the Gumtree, which is iconic to the Australian landscape, serves to emphasize the deep connection between the local wildlife and the rich, natural environment that surrounds Milbrulong.
The bright and detailed depiction of the Rosellas, nestled in the foliage of the tree, creates a harmonious and immersive scene that feels as though the birds have come to life within the tree’s branches.
As part of this artistic project, the town has taken steps to further support the conservation and protection of the Rosella and its habitat. In addition to the mural, nesting boxes will be strategically placed throughout the surrounding bushland, providing safe and suitable spaces for the Rosellas to nest and thrive.
This thoughtful addition ensures that the project not only celebrates the beauty of the bird but also contributes to the preservation of its natural environment. These nesting boxes are intended to complement the natural habitat of the Rosella, giving the birds a safe place to raise their young and continue to flourish in the area.
In essence, the Milbrulong Water Tower mural is more than just a piece of art; it is a celebration of the local wildlife, the natural beauty of the region, and the community’s commitment to preserving the environment.
The mural has become a beloved feature of Milbrulong, inviting people to appreciate the stunning colors and creatures that make the area so special. The addition of nesting boxes further enhances the town’s dedication to protecting the Rosella and its habitat, ensuring that this beautiful bird will continue to be a part of the local landscape for generations to come.
