Painted in 2019 by the talented Lyn Hovey, with invaluable assistance from David Stangways and Christine Stuart, this remarkable water tank has become a captivating addition to the renowned Australian Silo Art Trail Collection.

Its striking design and location make it one of the most remote and fascinating art installations in the entire collection. Nestled deep in the heart of South Australia, near the iconic Lake Eyre, the tank’s artwork stands as a testament to both the artistic talent and the natural beauty of this rugged and isolated region.

Marree, the small yet historically significant town where this tank is located, sits at a critical crossroads in the Australian outback. Positioned strategically at the junction of The Outback Highway and the Birdsville Track, Marree has long been a notable waypoint for adventurous travellers journeying into the vast and wild expanse of the Australian outback.

This location makes it a key stop for those embarking on journeys through some of the most remote and challenging landscapes in the country.

The mural on the water tank beautifully portrays the unique and resilient wildlife that calls this harsh yet stunning region home. The artwork captures the spirit of the outback through vivid depictions of wild Brumbies, the free-roaming horses that are a symbol of Australia’s pioneering history.

It also features camels, whose survival in this arid land is a testament to their strength and adaptability, as well as bounding kangaroos, an iconic representation of the Australian wilderness. Together, these creatures create a striking and harmonious image that reflects the spirit and rugged beauty of the outback.

This extraordinary artwork not only contributes to the growing legacy of the Australian Silo Art Trail but also offers a visual tribute to the natural world, bringing the outback's unique wildlife to life for all who pass through Marree.
