The GrainCorp Silos at Lascelles received a stunning transformation at the hands of artist Rone in mid-2017. The focal point of this masterpiece is a depiction of a local couple, Geoff and Merrilyn Horman, who epitomise the enduring spirit of the community. The Hormans, hailing from a lineage spanning four generations in the area, were chosen by Rone above all others to grace the silos.

Despite its modest population of around 50 people, Lascelles thrives under the care and guidance of individuals like Geoff and Merrilyn. With their wealth of farming knowledge and deep-rooted connection to the region, the couple has played an instrumental

role in nurturing the town’s prosperity.

Geoff and Merrilyn were born in the district, and their union in marriage in Lascelles in 1967 further solidified their bond with the area.

Rone’s artistic process spanned two weeks, during which he employed a unique technique involving adding water to his paint. This blending method created a ghostly, transparent effect—a signature characteristic of his distinctive painting style. Through his artistry, Rone has immortalised the enduring legacy of the Hormans and their profound impact on the Lascelles community.
