The Darwin Didgeridoo Water Tower Art, painted by Larrakia artist Tony Duwan Lee in January 2023, stands at a towering 41 meters. It has been reimagined as a cultural landmark, embodying the Dreamtime stories of the Larrakia people.

The Larrakia have a rich and vibrant traditional society deeply connected to the sea, and have long traded with neighboring groups like the Tiwi, Wagait, and Wulna peoples. These communities shared ceremonies, songlines, and often intermarried.

When the first settlers arrived in the Darwin region, the Larrakia offered them food and assistance. Despite facing conflict and marginalization, the Larrakia remained integral to the cultural life of the early settlement, living in and around the city before being relocated to camps further away.

Several well-known sites in Darwin hold significant cultural meaning for the Larrakia people, including Stokes Hill, Mindil Beach, Rapid Creek, and Casuarina Beach.
