Darwin Water Tank Art - Northern Territory

Artist: local Larrakia artists are Dotty Fejo, Tessna Dwyer, Norma Chidanpee and Kenny Reid.

Location: 51 O'Sullivan Circuit, East Arm Point, Darwin, NT

This remarkable artwork, completed in August 2019, was brought to life by the talented local Larrakia artists Dotty Fejo, Tessna Dwyer, Norma Chidanpee, and Kenny Reid.

Their collective creativity transformed two large tanks, situated at 51 O'Sullivan Circuit, East Arm, within the Darwin Port area, into a striking representation of the region's Indigenous culture and heritage.

These tanks play a crucial role in the fire suppression system, and they are now adorned with significant Indigenous artwork that showcases the cultural richness of the Larrakia people. Positioned at the Shell Darwin Onshore Base, the tanks are located behind a fence on private property, and the artworks are both visually captivating and culturally meaningful.

One tank features Dalirrgang, which represents the dry season in the Northern Territory, a time of intense heat and arid landscapes. The other tank depicts Balnba, symbolizing the wet season, with its rains and lush, fertile growth that contrasts sharply with the dry season.

It's important to note that the site is an operational facility with heavy machinery in constant use, and for safety reasons, access to the area is restricted.

Visitors are kindly asked not to enter the site or park in the driveway. Please respect the owner's request to ensure the safety of all individuals and to maintain the smooth operation of this working facility.
