The Cressy Water Tower Art, completed by renowned artist Tim Bowtell in January 2024, stands at an impressive 60 feet tall. Tim dedicated three weeks to the project, transforming the water tower into a stunning piece of art.
This milestone marks a significant achievement for the Cressy community, the result of years of planning and collaboration between the Cressy & District History Group, Barwon Water, and various funding partners. Together, they turned the Cressy water tower into a powerful visual representation of local history.
Tim Bowtell’s artistic expertise brought four murals to life, each one capturing a key aspect of the region's heritage. Notable elements include the Woady Yallock River, steam trains reflecting the area's railway past, and vintage aircraft honoring the Cressy RAAF Base during World War II. These elements add a rich narrative to the artwork, deepening its connection to the community's story.
This project not only highlights the community’s pride in its history but also enhances Cressy’s appeal as a tourist destination. As part of the Silo Arts Trail along the Hamilton Highway, the Cressy water tower now serves as a striking landmark visible to travelers approaching the township.
Furthermore, the completion of this project demonstrates the power of collaboration between public and private organizations, showing a shared commitment to community development and cultural preservation. The support from Barwon Water and other partners helps enrich the experience for both residents and visitors.
While the tower continues to fulfill its role in the local water supply system, it now also stands as a vibrant symbol of Cressy’s identity and pride. Its presence contributes to the community’s social, cultural, and economic vitality.
